Fillers

What are the parts of dermal fillers?

Subcutaneous fillers are gel-like substances that are injected into the epidermis. They contain the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid (HA) that is found in your epidermis. Fillers contain a modified version of this chemical, which hydrates and plumps the skin/lips.

All dermal fillings resorb over time and can be dissolved if necessary.

Additionally, HA filler contains a local anaesthetic to numb the treatment area. When indicated, topical numbing lotions or numbing injections may also be used.

As HA is a naturally occurring component of the skin, it degrades over time, rendering all HA fillers temporary and necessitating future replenishment.

Fillers are distinct from the anti-wrinkle injections (botulinum toxin) we administer. As opposed to toxins, fillers do not cause a softening of muscle contractions. The mechanism of fillers is to physically add volume to the epidermis.
