Traumatic Endodontic Injuries

We believe it is essential to inform our patients about the types of traumatic injuries that frequently necessitate endodontic treatment. Dental injuries may not be life-threatening, but they can be exceedingly painful and have a significant impact on your daily life. We are able to perform the appropriate endodontic treatments for your injury, thereby safeguarding your oral health and assisting you in maintaining an attractive, healthy smile.

Cracked Tooth

Despite the fact that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, our teeth are susceptible to cracking due to years of wear and tear and trauma. Identifying cracks and fractures is not always simple. In fact, it is extremely common for this type of injury to be invisible on an X-ray. Cracked teeth do not always hurt, despite the fact that it is common for patients to experience increased sensitivity and discomfort when chewing. Only if the fracture disturbs the pulp within the tooth will there be pain. Following a root canal procedure, fractured teeth may be restored via restoration or a crown.

Loosened Teeth

Your tooth may be moved inward, outward, or to the side following an injury. It is imperative that you contact your general dentist immediately in such situations. Immediate repositioning of the tooth will be necessary. If the dentin of the tooth has been severely damaged, your dentist may refer you to our office for a root canal.

Treatment with Fixed Clear Braces

A tooth that has been wholly expelled from its socket is avulsed. It is imperative that you consult a dentist immediately in order to save the tooth, as the chances of saving it diminish with each passing hour. Once the tooth has been dislodged, be sure to retrieve it by retaining only the crown and not the root. Rinse the tooth, but do not clean it excessively or manipulate it more than required. Reinsert the tooth into its socket and secure it with gauze or linen. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, store it in milk until you reach the dentist. The dentist will then reinsert the tooth, and endodontic treatment will be necessary within 1 to 2 weeks.

Apexogeny, Apexification, and Resorption

Our endodontist is also able to identify and treat a variety of traumas affecting both embryonic and mature teeth. Apexogenesis is typically performed on children whose pulp tissue has been damaged or infected, and whose root canal has not fully developed. Apexification is the process of generating a calcified barrier at the apex of a non-viable tooth with incomplete root formation. In cases of resorption, or when body cells attack and demolish portions of the tooth, the tissue invading the root must be removed and chemical treatment administered to prevent recurrence.
