Endodontic Microsurgery

Endodontic procedures have evolved over time to incorporate advanced microsurgery technology. Endodontic microsurgery is a surgical technique that employs a cutting-edge operating microscope and specialised microsurgical instruments. The enhanced magnification and illumination of the microscope and other surgical instruments improves visibility, resulting in enhanced diagnostic capabilities and surgical precision. With endodontic microsurgery, the prognosis for the long-term health of the tooth is significantly enhanced. Additionally, recovery time and postoperative trauma are reduced.

Other reasons you may need endodontic microsurgery.

In some instances, surgery may be used to aid in the diagnosis of a condition not visible on x-rays or imaging. If an infection persists despite treatment, microsurgical instruments can detect even the slightest fracture in a tooth or other canal-based problems. The endodontist can repair these issues without the need for additional surgery immediately.

Teeth require calcium for excellent health, but calcium deposits can adhere to the canal and narrow it. This can make it difficult for an endodontist to thoroughly clear the canal of damaged pulp. The instruments used to reach the extremity of your root during treatment cannot fit through the narrow canal. Endodontic microsurgery may be able to sanitise and seal the remainder of the canal if this calcification is present.

If your tooth's root and adjacent bone are irreparably damaged, surgery may be the only way to save it. Our endodontist will perform an apicoectomy procedure. During this procedure, the gum tissue is exposed, and any infected tissue and the root tip are removed. The end of the canal will then be sealed with a small filling, and your gums will be stitched back together for improved healing. Apicoectomies are uncommon and only performed as a last resort before extractions.
